COMA – “Excess”Oct 15th, 2010
COMA is a phenomenon: their releases gained double-platinum status in Poland and the band wins one award after the other. Now they will release the first english version of their best selling album “Excess”. COMA are ready to take the world by storm with their music inspired by Pearl Jam, Illusion and Led Zeppelin.
The band started off in 1998 with Dominik Witczak on guitar and Tomasz Stasiak on drums. They had tried to form a band which would play music inspired by Illusion, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, etc. Soon Rafał Matuszak on bass and Wojciech Grenda on guitar joined their creative friendship. To complete the picture, guys needed someone who could sing. But here their expectations were sky high. After the first rehearsal with Piotr, the choice proved to be the best possible. By the end of 2003 Grenda was replaced by Marcin Kobza , Coma signed a contract with BMG Poland, and started recording their debut album – “Pierwsze Wyjście Z Mroku” – right away. As it turned out fans noticed and appreciated Coma’s hard work what was very visible during concerts which drew huge audiences and music media awarded Coma debut album with Fryderyk statuette (equivalent for Grammy Award) for Album of the Year – Rock. Second studio album “Zaprzepaszczone Siły Wielkiej Armii Świętych Znaków”, was released on 29th May 2006 and remained on the first place of the Official Retail Sales Chart for a few weeks and had soon gained the Golden Record status. And as was the case with the first record, also that time fans appreciated the album awarding it with the title of Antyradio’s Album of the Year. During the 13th Woodstock Festival the band received a Złoty Bączek statuette – awarded by the audience.
The circle of Polish musicians, music journalists and music critics once again honoured Coma with Fryderyk awards. That time the band won two of them for Album of the Year Rock/metal and Group of the Year. In 2007 Coma supported such bands as Linkin Park, Pearl Jam and Tool.. In spring 2008 Adam Marszałkowski took place of Tomasz Stasiak on drums and participated actively in writing of new tracks. Between April and September 2008 all of the compositions were recorded, and they were released as “Hipertrofia” on 10th of November 2008. The album soon gained the Double Platinum Record status (selling over 50k in Poland solely) and the band went on tour again. After instant touring for over 5 years (since debut album came out) it was high time to record live performance for both CD and DVD. Coma gave spectacular show in Warsaw’s Arena Ursynów playing in front of 5000 enthusiastic fans with developed scene production and light effects offering show to be soon claimed by many as the most breathtaking and professional gig ever seen by any rock band from Poland. Band’s recent achievements were fuelled by label change – in the summer of 2009 Coma signed a deal with Mystic Production. CD, DVD and (first ever in Poland) BLU-RAY formats of “Live” album were released in March 2010. After dominating their home country, embarking on worldwide career was a natural step forward. Coma recorded “Excess” album (English version of their best-selling record) which is scheduled to be released worldwide on 11th October 2010. Many words of praise have been said about Coma phenomenon, but this time – more than ever – music will speak for itself when you experience the impact of “Excess” first-hand
